Die Themen Transformation und Klimaneutralität stehen im Zentrum der Iron Melting Conference & Exhibition (IMCE) 2026. Mit dem Titel „Beyond Iron Melting – Solving the Challenges of Transformation“ greift die Konferenz die drängendsten Herausforderungen für die Gießereiindustrie auf. Dabei verschiebt sich der Fokus von der klassischen Betrachtung des Kupolofens zunehmend hin zum Induktionsofen – immer vor dem Hintergrund der Klimaziele der EU und Deutschlands.

Renommierte Experten aus Wissenschaft und Praxis präsentieren in drei thematischen Blöcken die aktuellen Entwicklungen und Perspektiven.

Die politische Rahmensetzung beeinflusst Investitionsentscheidungen und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit maßgeblich. Diskutiert werden insbesondere die Entwicklungen im EU-ETS, die Zuteilung und die steigenden Kosten für Zertifikate.

Wirtschaft

Der wirtschaftliche Druck der Transformation ist hoch. Welche Investitionen sind erforderlich, um den Wechsel von Kupolofen zur Elektroschmelze erfolgreich zu gestalten? Welche Rolle spielen Schrotte und Gattierungen, und wie entwickeln sich die Kosten im Vergleich?

Technik

Im technischen Block geht es um die konkreten Innovationen, die die Zukunft des Schmelzbetriebs prägen. Dazu gehören alternative CO-Träger als Ersatz für Koks im Kupolofen, metallurgische Fragestellungen, die Digitalisierung von Elektroschmelzprozessen sowie aktuelle Entwicklungen rund um Kupolofentechnologien.

Wie schon 2021 bietet die IMCE eine Plattform für intensive fachliche Diskussionen. Die Transformation hin zu einer klimaneutralen Industrie ist machbar – sie erfordert jedoch verlässliche politische Rahmenbedingungen, tragfähige Geschäftsmodelle und innovative technische Lösungen.

Darüber hinaus bieten wir tags zuvor den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern die Möglichkeit einer exklusiven Gießereibesichtigung, um die Transformation live vor Ort nachzuvollziehen.

The topics of transformation and climate neutrality take center stage at the Iron Melting Conference & Exhibition (IMCE) 2026. Under the title “Beyond Iron Melting – Solving the Challenges of Transformation,” the conference addresses the most pressing challenges facing the foundry industry. The focus is increasingly shifting from the traditional cupola furnace to the induction furnace - always in the context of the climate targets set by the EU, Germany, and the country’s national policies.

Renowned experts from science and industry will present current developments and future perspectives across three thematic blocks.

Legislative

Political framework conditions have a decisive impact on investment decisions and industrial competitiveness. Discussions will focus in particular on developments within the EU-ETS, allocation mechanisms, and the rising costs of certificates.

Economy

The economic pressure created by transformation is immense. What investments are required to successfully enable the shift from cupola furnace melting to electric melting? What role do scrap materials and charge compositions play, and how are costs evolving in comparison?

Technology

The technology block highlights the key innovations driving the future of melting operations. These include alternative CO-carriers as substitutes for coke in the cupola furnace, metallurgical challenges, the digitalization of electric melting processes, and the latest developments in cupola furnace technologies.

As in 2021, IMCE once again provides a platform for intensive technical exchange and expert discussions. The transformation toward a climate-neutral industry is achievable - but it requires stable political framework conditions, viable business models, and innovative technological solutions.

In addition, participants will have the chance to join an exclusive foundry site visit on the day before the conference, offering a live, on-site insight into transformation in practice.

A complementary technical exhibition is also planned, showcasing products and solutions from both industry and research.
